You Don't Have to be Extreme, Just Consistent

Small disciplines repeated with consistency every day lead to great achievements gained slowly over time.” - John Maxwell

Many times when I start working with a new client or our community sets a new challenge, there’s a lot of enthusiasm. “This is going to be great!” the client thinks. “I’m about to change everything.” They might set a lofty goal or make plans to dramatically shift their diet or commit to a particularly intense workout regiment … and then wonder why their enthusiasm peters out a few weeks in.

While I love the excitement that comes with embarking on a healthier lifestyle, the truth is that you don't have to be extreme to see results. In fact, the best thing you can do for your health is being consistent with small disciplines.

There’s never a quick fix or a miracle cure, but consistency leads to momentum. The more consistently you do something, the easier it becomes, and the more momentum you build up. Eventually, what was once a struggle becomes a habit, and habits are hard to break. That's why consistency is so important- it is the key to making lasting change.

Try these three tips for being consistent:

  • set realistic & achievable goals (baby steps)

  • remember your “why” & write it out somewhere you can see regularly

  • build in accountability - the truth is we’re all better and stronger together; who can help stay focused on your goals and your why?
